The Week In Trailers (02/23/14)

Everyone has a different level of love for movies. Some people like to show up to the theater just in the nick of time to catch their flick, choosing to skip seeing the trailers before the feature. Others will make sure they arrive early enough to see all the previews so they can get excited for upcoming films. The Week In Trailers is for the second kind of people.

Here are a few trailers released in the last week all conveniently in one place for your viewing pleasure.

Teenager
A documentary mixture of archival footage, filmed portraits, and diary excerpts, this charts the evolution of “teenager” as a concept. Ben Whishaw and Jena Malone narrate an examination of the origins of youth culture and its becoming synonymous with self-discovery and rebellion.

Frankie & Alice
Originally released on a limited run in late 2010, this Halle Berry vehicle tells the story of a 1970s go-go dancer suffering from dissociative identity disorder. It screened at Cannes in its original year of release and was received positively by critics, but its wider release has been delayed until now. Stellan Skarsgard appears in support.

Jinn
Loosely based on Arabic and Islamic folklore, this attempts to introduce the concept of the “jinn”, spirits said to be made of a smokeless and scorching fire, to Western audiences. Ray Park, Faran Tahir, and Serinda Swan star.

Divergent
The latest trailer for this year’s attempt at YA cinematic dominance, this plays heavy on the action and menace and will no doubt score well with those in need of distraction until the The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 comes out later this year. Shailene Woodley toplines as Tris, one of the divergents of the title, with Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, and Theo James in support.
