In two months, Mark Oliver Everett will come back to the front of our minds with his new Eels album, The Cautionary Tales of Mark Oliver Everett. The 13-track record will be released on Everett’s own E Works imprint April 22. It looks like we’ll get the chance to process the new songs a bit before hearing them live on his 2014 North American tour dates.
Considering it’s an “extraordinarily vivid and intimate document of a personal struggle,” the new material will surely sound bittersweet live. We’ve already heard “Agatha Chang,” and that’s a track that could very well give a casual listener or die-hard fan goosebumps live. With his North American tour starting in mid-May and running through early June, I’m hoping the sunny weather will keep us from getting too moody.
