Panda Bear Working on New LP Tentatively Titled ‘Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper’

If it feels like it’s been a while since we’ve heard from Panda Bear, that’s because it has. Yes, the Animal Collective fellow did pop up on Daft Punk’s “Doin’ It Right,” but other than that we’ve just heard about the group as a whole instead of his own work. Now he’s headed back to the studio, however, and we’re all smiles.

Panda Bear is working on the follow-up to his 2011 LP Tomboy, heading to Lisbon, his adapted hometown, to record with Sonic Boom (psych-rock dude and former Spacemen 3 member). It isn’t confirmed, but the working title for the new record is Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper. Keep your eyes on Domino for a release date.

When interviewed on Under The Radar this past Saturday, Panda Bear said the album is “more linked to” 2007′s Person Pitch than Tomboy. “The drum stuff, I feel, is a real focal point of the music. It’s heavier and break-centric music,” he said, adding that he’s working with more samples this time around. He also said he was inspired by 9th Wonder, the North Carolina rap producer and former Little Brother member. Sounds like it will be as interesting as ever, but what else would you expect from him?
