Sunny Day Real Estate, Circa Survive Announce Split Featuring First New SDRE Song In 14 Years

You read that headline correctly. Sunny Day Real Estate will be releasing a split with Circa Survive for Record Store Day, featuring brand new material from both bands. For those of you keeping track at home, this marks the first new Sunny Day Real Estate song since their 2000 record, The Rising Tide. The track, titled “Lipton Witch,” was likely conceived during unresolved recording sessions following the band’s reunion in 2009. Circa Survive is contributing “Bad Heart,” a song recorded after the Violent Waves sessions in 2012.

The split’s artwork was done by Chris Thompson, who contributed artwork to Sunny Day Real Estate’s debut Diary and their 1998 record How It Feels To Be Something On. You can check out a high resolution image of the artwork after the jump. The split 7″ is limited to two variants, with 2400 copies on burgundy vinyl and 100 copies on clear. It will be out on April 19 for Record Store Day 2014, and I will be visiting every record store in the tri-state area looking for that clear variant.
