Listen to Sharon Van Etten’s New Single “Taking Chances”

Sharon Van Etten‘s Tramp was one of the finest albums of 2012 and while I’m not sure two years is even enough time to recover from such a release, she recently announced the follow-up, Are We There, will hit stores on May 27.

Today she released the first single from the album, “Taking Chances.” It’s far groovier and features more of an R&B influenced rhythm section than anything from Tramp, but still showcases the singer/songwriter’s sultry voice and vulnerable, straight-forward lyrics. Van Etten also produced the album alongside Stewart Lerman (Regina Spektor, St. Vincent).

Luckily for us, she’ll be touring small clubs and making the requisite festival stops throughout the summer, and she’s great in either setting. Click through for those dates and the stream of “Taking Chances.”
