Amazon Adds 4 New Series To Original Programming Lineup, Including ‘Bosch’

We go back and forth at HQ about how to handle coverage of digital streaming services, but if we write about shows on Netflix it’s only fair that we write about their competition as well.

Earlier this year, Amazon ran a competition through the Prime streaming service that asked users to vote for which one of five original pilots they would like to see picked up for a full series. The content ran for several weeks and ended just last week.

Today, Amazon announced that four of the five pilots were received well enough to reason a full season order. Those programs making the cut include X-Files creator Chris Carter’s The After, as well the crime noir Bosch, the heartbreakingly hilarious Transparent, and the strangely unique Mozart In The Jungle. A sizzle reel featuring clips from every show, including the one that was not picked up, can be viewed below.

I have seen Bosch, The After, and Transparent, but honestly have very little interest in Mozart. If any are destined for life beyond season one I would think Bosch to be most likely, but Transparent could be niche enough to develop a thriving fan base if handled properly.

There is no release date set for the full season debut of any of the shows picked up by Amazon, but a summer debut would not be out of the question. Whether the series will be available all at once or released over time is also unknown at this point. We will bring you more information as soon as additional details begin to surface.

All the casts are stacked and I’d watch any of the shows based on this. Gonna have to check these out.

I found ‘The After’ to be really boring.

Tambor is a beast in ‘Transparent.’

You know I love procedurals, but ‘Bosch’ is a great even if you’re not a genre diehard.

I watched Transparent (great double meaning) and The After so far. Transparent was really good but the gratuitous nudity in these shows is getting pretty old. I’m a guy and everything but it’s so unnecessary and really distracting. I think it could be a great show though. Tambor is always so good.

The After was truly disappointing coming from Carter. The stereotypes in the show are ridiculous. Like really way too obvious. The acting isn’t bad but the writing seems pretty awful. Hard to tell from one episode but that shows seems like it’d be hard to balance out.

The 10-15 minutes of ‘The After’ with constant car alarms turned me off faster than anything.

Yeah that was obnoxious. I’m not sure where that show would be going. Started off as a standard “wtf is going on? seems to be some kind of viral epidemic/apocalypse” and turned into some weird alien/demon sci-fi shit.

Watched Bosch and Mozart in the Jungle. Bosch is decent but there’s nothing really outstanding about it to set it apart from other standard cop procedurals. They could explore some interesting cases of course but other than the acting and cast there wasn’t much that stood out to me.

Mozart is okay. Nothing too great but I love Bernal and the producers attached are great so it could be decent. I’d continue watching it but again, nothing spectacular.
