RIP: Movie Trailer Narrator Hal Douglas

Another one of the three golden voices from movie trailer narration has been silenced forever.

Legendary movie trailer narrator Hal Douglas has passed away at the age of 89, according to the New York Times. The cause was complications of pancreatic cancer.

Douglas will be remembered for helping sell thousands of films, including Forrest Gump, using only his gravelly baritone voice. He was one of the last of the icons of movie narration, along with Don LaFontaine, the most prolific, who died in 2008, and Don Morrow, the voice of the Titanic trailer.

You can view an example of Douglas’ work below.

Hal Douglas is one of thousands who work in Hollywood and never get the proper thanks they deserve. You might not realize it, but his voice likely helped convince you to see a dozen movies or more in your lifetime. Some may have been bombs, but others were hits, and you have him to thank for getting you in the door.

Rest in peace, Hal. Thanks for all the memories.
