If You Enjoy Pop Rock, Prepare To Fall In Love With Like London

There were a handful of months back in 2009/2010 when electronic-driven pop rock was all the rage in alternative music. Like mid-2000s metalcore and the ‘modern’ emo sound of 2001, however, there quickly grew to be far too many bands trying to hitch their careers to the genre bandwagon for anyone to get ahead. Countless bands copied each other’s sound and quickly made one another irrelevant, but the few that survived (Breathe Carolina, for instance) went on to have sustainable careers whose longevity was aided by the recent embrace of EDM by mainstream society.

In 2014, the scene is beginning to once again sway the way of EDM-influenced creativity, and leading the pack of unsigned hopefuls looking to gain exposure is none other than Toledo, Ohio quintet Like London. Their debut EP, Alive, offers three anthemic pop rock jams that are bursting with hypnotic synth, pulsing bass, and melodies you won’t be able to shake for several days. The best part of it all? It’s available right now on Bandcamp for whatever amount you feel comfortable paying. You can stream my favorite song, which also happens to be the title track to the EP, below.

I am thrilled to see club ready dance rock making a comeback, especially if it means more groups offering a sound similar to Like London. Their music is catchy enough for top 40, but just gritty enough to land the band a performance in your favorite dimly lit music venue. Girls will want to know them, and guys will want to be them while still telling their fellow bros they don’t get what girls see in a bunch of guys with ear gauges and perfectly disheveled hair playing pop music.

The sky is the limit for Like London. Enjoy the song below, download the EP, then take a few moments to follow the band on Twitter and Facebook. Their impending rise is one you will not want to miss.
