The Contortionist To Begin Recording Third LP

I was introduced to The Contortionist during my freshman year of college, and instantly fell in love with their debut album Exoplanet, which to this day I believe is one of the most diverse and unpredictable records across any genre. Their sophomore attempt, 2012’s Intrinsic, fell short in my eyes, however, allowed the band to skyrocket into the limelight, acquiring them a large and ever growing fan base.

About this time last year, the five-piece parted ways with their long time vocalist Jonathan Carpenter, and shortly thereafter replenished their roster by adding Last Chance To Reason vocalist, Mike Lessard, to the lineup. Since then, metalheads across the globe have been anxiously awaiting new material, and tonight, I am pleased to report that they won’t have to wait much longer.

According to Heavy Blog, The Contortionist recently entered the studio to record a follow-up to Intrinsic, and if that isn’t enough to appease the head-bangers, the group is rumored to be working with longtime BTBAM producer Jamie King. Though it has not yet been confirmed, many are theorizing that this newest undertaking will be released before the year is out.

Personally, I am both excited and nervous for what the future holds. Few will deny that Lessard is a perfectly capable frontman, having toured with the outfit extensively following Carpenter’s departure, however, I’m not sure where he’ll fit in amidst the group’s constantly evolving sound.
