UTG PHOTOS: Flogging Molly (2/27/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer, Derek Scancarelli, to Roseland Ballroom in New York City to photograph Flogging Molly on February 27, 2014.

In 2004, Flogging Molly released Within A Mile Of Home. I was 13 years old and I bought the 12” record at the mall. It was one of my early new vinyl purchases. Shortly after, I purchased their previous record Drunken Lullabies (2002) on a picture disc. A decade has since gone by and I’ve finally had the chance to see the band perform. From what I can remember, many of the band’s tours were sponsored by Guinness, making it problematic for the younger fans to get a chance to see them play.

What made this experience even all the better was being given the chance to enter Roseland Ballroom one last time not as a patron, but as a photographer. The iconic New York City venue will be closing its doors forever come April after a small residency of shows performed by Lady Gaga.

Over the years, I’ve grown as a person visiting that venue, going to see the likes of Deftones and many more. Nirvana, Radiohead, Guns N’ Roses and The Rolling Stones have all graced the stage at the legendary Roseland. It’s a shame to see it go. I’ll hang it up in the rafters with CBGB and the other lost but not forgotten music clubs.

To reminisce on the good times you’ve spent there or if you just think Flogging Molly kicks ass, check out photos from the show below.
