Watch The New ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Trailer

X-Men "Days of Future Past" poster -- exclusive EW.com image

The second trailer for this summer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past is out, and it is bleak. Cities are in ruin. Sentinels are dropping from ships and shooting lasers out of their faces. Old Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) gravely exposit the film’s plot to the soon-to-be-time-traveling Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) as their younger counterparts (James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender) speak just as gravely on teaming up, even as they continue to fire shots at each other.

The two-and-a-half-minute reel largely favors those heavy hitters, with a dash of Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) thrown in, but it also gives quick glimpses of Storm (Halle Berry), Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), and the villainous Bolivar Trask himself (Peter Dinklage). We even hear a bit of Trask’s anti-mutant speech, and – wow, there are a lot characters in this movie. Characters and dread. Bringing back returning director Bryan Singer’s original cast will do that.

See the trailer in all its grave, character-opulent splendor below. X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters on May 23.
