Check Out Fucked Up’s 18-Minute Single “Year Of The Dragon,” Along With Its B-Sides

The biggest news for Fucked Up fans was the recent announcement of Glass Boys, the band’s summer follow-up to the momentous David Comes To Life. Matador isn’t unleashing that beast until June 3, though. The Year of the Dragon dawns much sooner.

The wily Canadians’ annual-ish Zodiac releases continue to trickle out, with Year of the Dragon set to be the sixth installment of the series to be released. Dragon is actually the eighth in the series – years of Hare and Rabbit have yet to be officially released – but few complaints as to that fact are likely to be lodged. Damian Abraham is pretty terrifying for a lovable dad.

Live versions of the track have been floating around the internet since last fall, but the official single has only just now hit. As is tradition with the Zodiac series, the song is mammoth. At eighteen minutes – much of it instrumental, percussive jamming with those recognizable, multi-pronged guitar attacks -“Year of the Dragon” is an odyssey befitting a novel’s length.

The B-sides, both of them covers, can be heard in some form as well. Fucked Up’s version of Cardboard Brains’ “I Wanna Be A Yank” appeared on Tankcrimes’ Have You Seen My Mind? compilation. Both it and the cover of The Ugly’s “Disorder” are available via CBC music.

Check out all three tracks, one of them so very much longer than the others, below. The 12″ comes out on April 22 on Tankcrimes, with pre-orders available now. The pre-order contains a bonus flexi disc toting an edited version of “Year of the Dragon.”
