After treating NYC fans to a live premiere last month, 2 Chainz has finally unleashed the studio version of his latest banger.
Featuring French Montana and a self-aware reference to “Hanh” being Montana’s trademark, “A-Rod” arrived online this afternoon with little-to-no warning. It’s a massive track, with a hook that is equal parts infectious and ridiculous. I want to discuss it in-depth a bit, but first it is probably best you understand what we’re talking about. HOT DAMN. Am I right? It has been a minute since Young Chop delivered a beat that was straight heat, but “A-Rod” has the makings of the next must-tackle freestyle track. If you thought “OG Bobby Johnson” got old, just wait until lame rappers get there hands on an instrumental of this track and see what happens.
2 Chainz and French deliver their normal mix of ego and lifestyle bars, but it’s hard to not find some human in their over-simplification of what it means to be a rapper. The line, “I just said that shit with my eyes closed,” for instance, makes one scratch their head almost as much as it entertains. I did not realize rapping required vision.
All jokes aside, if you love tracks that make you want to tear the club up, even if you are the type of person that would rather jump out of a moving vehicle than ever be seen at a club, then “A-Rod” is for you. Everyone else, keep surfing the web. There is nothing for you here.
