Punk Goes 90s Volume 2 arrives in stores today. We more or less enjoy every update the compilation has to offer, but the album definitely peaks during Hands Like Houses‘ cover of the Natalie Imbruglia hit known as “Torn.” It’s a fittingly crunchy-yet-catchy alternative remake of the instantly infectious song, with just enough signature HLH elements to make it feel entirely their own. I was barely in middle school when “Torn” first hit radio, but my love affair with its unforgettable hook has endured every single trend that has come and went since. It’s the kind of breakup song that has universal appeal, and by keeping the poppier elements in tact Hands Like Houses have managed to make it feel new once more.
