Icona Pop And Ty Dolla $ign Update “It’s My Party”

It’s hard to imagine anyone growing up without hearing the chorus “It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to” once or twice in their life. It’s one of those rare pop music gems that has become as engrained in our culture as I Love Lucy or Elvis, and earlier this week it was given a strange update from Icona Pop and Ty Dolla $ign.

By this point I am fairly confident you’re trying to get the hook from “It’s My Party” out of your head, but that probably will not have any chance of happening if you click play on the song at the end of this post. By slowing things down and offering plenty of modern flair to the mix, Icona Pop and Ty Dolla $ign have crafted an alternate version of “It’s My Party” that is as infectious as it is peculiar. You can stream the song below:

It feels like this song could have been called anything else and been given a completely different hook without the feeling or message of the song changing in the slightest. The fact it chooses to hop on the fleeting fame of a distant pop relic is both intriguing and head-scratching, mainly due to the fact I am not sure whether I dig it or want to be erased from the pop history books. It simply exists, in my opinion, but perhaps you will feel more strongly one way or the other.

Icona Pop are currently on tour with Miley Cyrus. Ty Dolla $ign, meanwhile, is prepping for the release of his Beach House EP later this year.
