Protest The Hero Release Statement Confirming Arif’s Departure

What we had hoped was a cruel April Fools joke has been sealed in reality as Protest The Hero have officially confirmed that original bassist and backing vocalist, Arif Mirabdolbaghi, will no longer be a part of the band for the foreseeable future as he focuses on other projects and steps away from their intense touring schedule.

Give us a moment to wipe our tears away…

Having seen PTH live on several occasions, I can safely say that my eyes were often transfixed on Arif’s happy-go-lucky smile, various playing styles, occasional high kicks, and signature archer move more so than anything else occurring onstage. He’s simply one of the best bassists-nay, musicians-in the game right now and I look forward to any future endeavors he finds himself exploring.

Fortunately though, Mirabdolbaghi will be replaced by the very capable and talented Cam McLellan who already has plenty of experience working with Protest The Hero as he was a co-writer and co-producer on their most recent full-length release, Volition.

After the jump, you can read the statement from Protest The Hero that was posted on their Facebook regarding the lineup alteration.

The cat’s out of the bag. Despite what you may of read already, here’s the real scoop:

Arif has decided that the touring schedule we have signed up for to support Volition is more intense than what he is prepared to commit. He is actively involved with other projects at home and being a full time band member isn’t a practical thing. Though he has and will be missed out on the road with his brothers, everything was left on a positive note and we are open to his involvement down the road and only time will see how it all plays out. In the meantime, our longtime friend and tourmate Cam McLellan will be filling in on bass duties for the rest of the cycle. As an amazing musician, co-writer and producer of Volition, he is more than capable to pick off where Riffy left off. Don’t fret, Cam’s working on his giant happy smile and well placed high kicks during our set!
