Required Listening: Future Featuring Kanye West – “I Won”

A lot of rap released this year has focused on wealth and success, but for his latest single Future has chosen to celebrate the woman that makes him feel like a champion.

“I Won,” which is arguably the most anticipated track off Future’s forthcoming album, found its way online late last night. The track pairs Future with Kanye West for a mid-tempo jam celebrating the women in their lives (in this case, Ciara and Kim Kardashian). These women are trophies, you see, and both these guys are champions because they’ve managed to find one to call their own. You can stream the track below:

There have been times when Future’s vocoder usage has driven me insane, but on “I Won” it fits the vibe so well it’s hard to imagine anyone delivering the hook without its wobbly-effects. You know before the song ends you want to listen again, and a lot of that is owed to the infectious qualities of the hook.

The verses are nothing to laugh at either, offering a more direct and, at times, raunchy appreciation for the women that make men feel like winners. Kanye outshines Future, but that probably will not surprise many people. Music fans have been craving that old school Kanye sound for so long, and here he delivers that kind of flow in a way that reminds you Chi-town’s finest is much more than Yeezus.

Future’s new album, Honest, hits stores April 22. You can pre-order the album now.
