As I Lay Dying Members Suggest Tim Lambesis Posted Band Update Without Their Knowledge

As I Lay Dying 2013

When I read the statement updating the future of As I Lay Dying that was posted on the band’s official site this morning, I knew something smelled fishy. Not only was the statement too meandering and poorly written to have come through the band’s management or PR team, but it strangely kept referring to the band as “we” while taking a otherwise third-person approach. It was also missing the type of signature we typically see at the bottom of such statements.

Whoever wrote the statement refused to acknowledge anyone other than Lambesis and drummer Jordan Mancino as “official” members of the band. While it may be true that Mancino and Lambesis, as founding members of the band, share ownership over the band’s name, the final incarnation of the band’s lineup had been in tact since 2007 and the other three members are far more than the hired hands the statement made them out to be. If the statement offered any useful information, it was outing Oh, Sleeper guitarist/vocalist Shane Blay as the frontman of the new project the members of As I Lay Dying have been teasing over the past few days, even if that isn’t how the band would have wanted that information revealed.

The remaining members of As I Lay Dying (sans Lambesis) have now countered with their own statement, claiming Lambesis is the only person with access to the As I Lay Dying website and the previous statement was posted without their knowledge. That statement can be read below.

“Good day friends,

This morning an update was posted over at www.asilaydying.com on the current happenings and individual futures of all the bands’ members. For Jordan, Josh, Nick, Phil, management, and record label, this was an interesting first time read as all parties were oblivious to its construction, intent, and release.

Though Tim is the only one with access to the As I Lay Dying site, the rest of us have been releasing content through our personal social media accounts to reveal that we are carrying on in a new band. Our truest intentions were to make this unveiling interesting and exciting for anyone who has supported us over the past year. With information so instantaneous and disposable these days, we had hoped to show you how things were coming together rather than simply tell you.

We never want to capture attention dramatically, which is precisely why we’ve been off the radar for close to a year. Though the third-person statement released earlier compromises a lot of how we had hoped to unroll things, we remain positive in our outlooks and look forward to sharing new music soon.

With love and gratitude,

Jordan, Josh, Phil, Nick“
