James Cameron Has Almost Finished Writing ‘Avatar’ 2, 3, and 4

James Cameron is usually the type of filmmaker to keep to himself, but recently the brilliant mind who gave us Titanic and the best Terminator films opened up to fans via a Reddit AMA. There are dozens of headlines making the rounds about things mentioned, but we think the following tidbit is by far the most interesting of the bunch.

Cameron claims he has almost completed the scripts for Avatar 2, 3, and 4. He told the Reddit community, “The second, third and fourth films all go into production simultaneously. They’re essentially all in preproduction now, because we are designing creatures, settings, and characters that span all three films. And we should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks.”

If no hiccups occur with production, Avatar 2 will hit theaters in December 2016. 3 and 4 are scheduled for 2017.

Fans also asked Cameron if he thought Arnold Schwarzenegger, a one-time frequent collaborator with the filmmaker, would appear in any of the sequels. Cameron responded, “I don’t see a role as the scripts are coming together that would be appropriate for him, so I would say probably not.”

We’ll bring you more on the Avatar franchise as soon as additional information becomes available.
