‘Rio 2’ Flies Up To #2 Spot; ‘Captain America 2’ Maintains #1

One of the (albeit minor) surprises of this weekend came when news spread that Rio 2 had pulled in more sales ($12 million) in its opening weekend than the behemoth that is Captain America: Winter Soldier ($11.9 million). Things still remain to be neck and neck for the two sequels, seeing as how current weekend estimates have shown that when the dust settles, The Captain will be on top, with $41.4 million to show for it.

Oculus and Draft Day made their debuts this past weekend as well. With Oculus, a low-budget horror to come from WWE Studios making $12 million, and Draft Day, the latest film to come from Kevin Costner pulling in nearly $9.8 million.
