Rest In Peace: FEARnet (2006-2014)

It’s a sad day for horror fans.

FEARnet has been purchased by Comcast from its partners – Sony Pictures Entertainment and Lionsgate Entertainment – with the intention of folding the horror/thriller/sci-fi network into Comcast’s NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment division through its Chiller and SyFy networks.

“NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment has acquired all remaining interests in FEARnet from its productive venture with Lionsgate and Sony,” the company said in a statement to Deadline through a spokesman. “FEARnet, along with its popular content, will be integrated into NBCU Cable Entertainment. This process will take place over a yet to be determined period of time.”

10 of the 25 staffers from FEARnet will remain with the company during its transition. The remaining 15 were laid off this afternoon, but Comcast has promised to try and find a place for the recently unemployed in other areas of the company.

FEARnet originally launched on Halloween 2006, and in the years since it has become a favorite for genre fans worldwide. We were fortunate enough to work with them several times in recent years, specifically when dealing with Holliston, and are quite sad to see them go.

A thanks from the company to fans can be found here.
