Required Listening: Big K.R.I.T. – “Mount Olympus”

In honor of crossing the 500,000 followers mark on Twitter Big K.R.I.T. decided last night to treat fans to a new, completely free banger that is guaranteed to leave your speakers smoking.

Opening with the kind of boastful chorus that lets you know that war is on the horizon, “Mount Olympus” wastes no time demanding your full, unwavering attention. K.R.I.T. addresses the way he has felt shelved by the industry in recent years, as well as Kendrick Lamar’s highly-publicized “Control Verse,” and every little thing that has been on the mind of K.R.I.T. since he supposedly ‘made it’ in 2013. The hook may be the fiercest section of them all, featuring the lines:

Now they wanna hear a country nigga rap / 5 albums in, I swear a country nigga snap / Thought they wanted trap / thought they wanted bass / Thought they wanted molly / thought they wanted drank / Fuck them niggas

You can stream and download “Mount Olympus” at the end of this post.

It’s clear from this track that Big K.R.I.T. is done playing the games the industry tries to force artists into in order to squeeze a few extra dollars out of consumers’ pockets. He has reached a point of popularity and clarity that has allowed him to realize just how little he really needs the so-called music business. Being himself is the reason anyone ever gave a damn, and that is exactly who he intends to remain until they put him in the ground.
