Watch the Trailer for Elliott Smith Documentary ‘Heaven Adores You’

Last year we took a moment to remember one of music’s most important icons, Elliott Smith, on the tenth anniversary of his passing with his best songs. With a mysterious personality and an incredible knack for songwriting, Smith’s work soon left Portland and became mainstream after “Miss Misery” (Good Will Hunting) got a Best Original Song Oscar nomination in 1998. Now, years later, Smith’s legacy will be covered in Nikolas Rossi’s new documentary, Heaven Adores You.

The Kickstarter-funded film is an “intimate, meditative inquiry into the life and music of Elliott Smith” from his birth to his death (1969 — 2003) and the impact it had on family, friends, and fans. This is the first time Smith’s estate has given rights for his music to be used in such a project. The film includes interviews with his sister, bandmates, collaborators (like Jon Brion and Slim Moon), and more. When we hear their words overlapped with his music (songs he believes aren’t anything complicated, rather just “pictures made out of words”), tears are bound to fall.
