‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’ Has A Release Date

Eddie Murphy still has a few tricks up his sleeve. At least, that is Paramount’s hope.

Deadline is reporting that Beverly Hills Cop 4 has finally been given a theatrical release date of March 25, 2016. That is less than two years from this very moment, and as far as we know there has been no announcement regarding a start date for production. Eddie Murphy will once again star as Axel Foley, with X-Men favorite Brett Ratner sitting in the director’s chair.

We have covered the Beverly Hills Cop franchise several times over the last year, and every time a new headline emerges it seems the entire franchise plan does as well. There was originally talk of the fourth film being a reboot, then it was a television series that would not involve Murphy, then a film once again, only this time with Murphy starring opposite someone who would portray his son and – in theory – launch a new series of films. At this point it does not seem like the television series is likely, but the chances of Axel Foley Jr. making an appearance are still reasonably high.

Beverly Hills Cop originally premiered in 1984 and eventually spawned two successful sequels. Okay, one successful sequel and one sequel whose quality nerds debate to this very day. I liked Part 3 personally, but I also enjoyed Legally Blonde 2.

No additional casting information is available for Beverly Hills Cop just yet, but we expect a slew of new details regarding the project to surface in the months ahead. Stay tuned.
