Under The Gun sent guest photographer, Laura Murray, to Irving Plaza in New York City to photograph Iggy Azalea on May 5, 2014.

Iggy Azaelia is on the path to next level pop stardom. Currently, she is featured on Ariana Grande’s single “Problem,” which is #1 on the iTunes song chart. The Australian native’s debut album The New Classic has had an outpouring of fan approval since its release on April 21. She’s unique and we at Under The Gun love that.

The first thing fans saw on stage when they entered Irving Plaza was a structure that somewhat resembled a giant toy barbie hotel. “Hotel Iggy” read the sign above the building which also sported the new album title, The New Classic, in hot pink and glowing blue neon. All that was missing was the hot pink Malibu convertible. The show was already winning me over with nostalgia before it even began.

DJ Wizz Kidd got the crowd riled up by playing every relevant hip-hop song from the past five years, but things got really wild when he took a turn for the old school with TLC’s “No Scrubs.” The hype may have faded off however when a technical problem put the show back about forty minutes. After much chanting, Iggy finally made her way to the stage. I am happy to report that the wait was well worth it.

Let me set the scene for those who weren’t fortunate enough to be in attendance. There was an immense amount of hair flipping, dropping it low, and extraordinarily attractive women dancing on stage. Giant champagne bottles were passed around while yellow streamers were projected into the crowd.

Azalea’s tongue can keep up with her witty and humorous rhymes during a live performance just as well as on the record. She once again scored major nostalgia points when she used a sound bite from Clueless to introduce her single with Charlie XCX, “Fancy”. The concert was a party that I didn’t want to end. Unfortunately, it did by 10:30 on the dot without an encore. My only complaint would be that she didn’t perform for the entire night.
