Anberlin Debut “Stranger Ways”

Anberlin are ramping up promotion for the release of their final studio album, Lowborn, with the release of a new song that deserves to serve as your melancholy soundtrack for the day ahead.

“Stranger Ways” made its debut online this morning thanks to an exclusive story on Billboard. The song harkens back to the lyrical content found on Cities, with a little dash of 80s indie pop thrown in along with the sound found on their more recent releases. You can stream the song, in full, at the end of this post.

The band’s frontman Stephen Christian tells Billboard that producer Aaron Sprinkle was “so upset when he heard stranger ways, he told me that he should have done the entire record just because he loved this particular song so much.”

Christian also has strong feelings about the song, which he says “embodies a lot of what Anberlin will be remembered for; the 80’s influence, dark dactylic lyrics, and intriguing melodies and music.” The song “is not the embodiment of the record,” he continues. “Many people are going to hear this and think the entire record is this somber, but rest assured Lowborn is eclectic and chaotic, just like a good Anberlin record should be.”

Lowborn will be released on June 23 via Tooth and Nail Records. Anberlin will support the album into the fall, with plans to wrap up their final tour dates before 2015 arrives. A current list of dates can be found here, but the band has teased the addition of more shows in the months ahead. Follow UTG on Twitter for updates.
