UTG VIDEO PREMIERE: Ishmael – “Telemachus”

On their Facebook page, Ishmael classify themselves as “post emo progressive rock.” While that sounds like an odd fusion of disparate genres, it is a surprisingly good description of the New York band’s sound. The trio’s noodly guitar parts and sparse vocals are the hallmarks of emo, but their technical rhythm section is more reminiscent of math rock. All of the parts come together wonderfully on “Telemachus,” from Ishmael’s 2013 album, Lotic. UTG is excited to premiere the music video for the song, which you can check out after the break.

Along with the new music video, Ishmael have announced their signing to St. Louis, Missouri label Carucage Records. With such a strong record already under their belts, the future can only bring great things for Ishmael, and we’re excited to see what they do next. And what is next for Ishmael? They plan to release a new EP this winter, and a tour of the Midwest and East Coast is also in the works, so be on the lookout for more information on both of those fronts.

Lotic is available for free download on the group’s Bandcamp page, as is their 2012 self-titled EP.
