Ever since Ryan Gosling said he’d be taking a break from acting, we’ve had our eyes raised in curiosity about what would come next. So now, after sneaking a peak at some photos from the set, we get to see a clip from the actor’s directorial debut, Lost River, as it’s set to premiere at Cannes this week.
Lost River follows a single mother of two named Billy (Hendricks) as she enters a dark fantasy underworld. Meanwhile, her 18-year-old son, Bones, uncovers a secret road to an underwater town. Both must explore these worlds in order to keep their family safe. The surreal, horror-fantasy-noir film draws influences from Lynch to Refn. Watch the clip and see how the playful style and deserted location are even reminiscent of Fish Tank.
