The Word ‘Dubstep’ Has Been Added To The American Dictionary

The shark has been jumped.

After years on the tip of every pop culture connoisseur’s tongue, the word ‘dubstep’ has been approved for addition to America’s Merriam-Webster Dictionary. The term, which is used to describe a type of dance music, is among 150 new words being added to the dictionary for its upcoming 2014 edition. Other words added with relevancy to music include ‘auto-tune,’ ‘crowdfunding,’ and – believe it or not – ‘fangirl.’

The dictionary defines the term ‘dubstep’ as follows:

“dubstep (n., 2002): a type of electronic dance music having prominent bass lines and syncopated drum patterns”

This is a pretty big seal of approval from the world at large for those who thrive within the dubstep genre, but it is not the first time the word has been added to a dictionary. Chambers Dictionary also added the word to its collection in the UK in 2011.
