Riff Raff has been teasing the release of his debut album for months, and now that Neon Icon is less than a month from hitting stores Jody Highroller is having a hard time keeping the material to himself. We have already heard “How To Be A Man,” as well as its badass remix, and now we have a song produced by Diplo that may convert punks into rap fans if the marketing is right.
Featuring production that brings to mind the best moments of The Transplants’ music, “Kokayne” is far more rock than rap. Riff Raff doesn’t care, of course, and he treats the beat like any other and crafts a unique flow to navigate the material with creative lyricism and wit to spare. I’m not sure it will win over many die-hard genre fans, but it certainly feels like a summer anthem waiting to be enjoyed while doing illegal things with your best friends. You can stream the song below:
This may be my favorite Riff Raff song of the year, which is really saying something when you consider just how many freestyles/remixes/etc. Jody Highroller has posted in recent months. Comment below and let me know if you agree.
Neon Icon hits stores June 28. Pre-orders are available now on iTunes.
