Members of Wilco and Cibo Matto to Score ‘Almost Sunrise’ Documentary

Award-winning director Michael Collins is working on a new documentary titled Almost Sunrise about the struggle to overcome the effects of war, and Nels Cline of Wilco and Yuka C. Honda of Cibo Matto are hopping on board to do the score.

Almost Sunrise follows Tom and Anthony, two Iraq war veterans, Tom and Anthony, on their 2,700-mile walk across their country to reflect on their traumatic experiences and restore themselves. Their hike is initially driven by a fear of succumbing to the epidemic of veteran suicide, but they soon discover there’s more light pushing them forward than darkness. It looks to be a dark but uplifting peek into a world often overlooked when it comes to our war heroes.

Collins won a Special Jury Prize for Best New Director at Tribeca Film Festival. His last film, Give Up Tomorrow, was nominated for an Emmy and aired nationally on BBC, PBS, and others. “Michael Collins is one of the most quietly powerful directors today,” said Honda. “I believe in him, this film, and the urgency of this subject.”

The film has almost reached its goal of $70,000 on Kickstarter where certain pledge gifts include music, posters, and shirts from Cline and Honda. Donations for the Kickstarter can be made here.
