Interpol Announce New Album ‘El Pintor’

NYC post-punks Interpol have officially announced their fifth studio album will hit stores on September 9. They’ve titled the album El Pintor, which is not only Spanish for “the painter,” but also an anagram for Interpol, something I’m ashamed to admit took me more than a few glances to figure out.

El Pintor is the first Interpol album to feature frontman Paul Banks playing bass, in addition to recording guitars and vocals, as the band has yet to officially replace founding bassist Carlos Dengler, who left the band after recording their last album, 2010’s Interpol. After a few years away, the band is hitting the U.S. festival circuit hard this summer, with scheduled appearances at Governor’s Ball, Lollapalooza, FYF Fest and Austin City Limits.

The band’s full itinerary, as well as the album’s cover art and a video of in-studio footage can be seen below.
