UTG PHOTOS: Sasquatch! Music Festival Takes The Gorge Amphitheater By Storm

Under the Gun Review sent photographer, Xander Deccio, to the Sasquatch! Festival in Quincy, WA on the weekend of May 23-25.

To quote my colleague, Morgen Schuler of Seattle Weekly, “Sasquatch! is like summer camp for music lovers. You don’t know what it’s like to experience a weekend at the Gorge in George until you’ve been there.” And this Sasquatch! Was no different. Oh, wait, yeah it was! You see, Sasquatch! was supposed to be two weekends this year. One weekend would be on the normal Memorial Day weekend as it’s been in previous years, and the other would follow on 4th of July. Sadly, due to low ticket sales, the promoters decided to cancel the 4th of July weekend of Sasquatch!, which boasted a lineup of stellar acts such as Soundgarden, Neutral Milk Hotel, Frank Ocean, Broken Bells, and Kraftwerk performing their set in 3D.

Memorial Day weekend’s lineup on the other hand, only had Outkast, Queens of the Stone Age, The National, Haim and newly reunited Violent Femmes, who had played Coachella the year prior. What was also different was the fact that Sasquatch! would only be held on Friday to Sunday, bypassing Memorial Day entirely. Being that it was also too late and other bands had set schedules, there was nothing the promoters could do to try and fix this year by adding on a Monday schedule. But that didn’t stop the numerous kids from flocking to the Gorge, to enjoy the weekend’s festivities.

Sadly, I wasn’t able to cover Sunday of Sasquatch! as I came down with a bout of food poisoning the night prior, so all of my photos are of sets from Friday and Saturday. Out of the bands I saw at this year’s festival, my top 5 would be:

1. Violent Femmes
2. Phantogram
3. OutKast
4. Kongos
5. Hobosexual

Honorable mentions include: Princess featuring Maya Rudolph, The Grizzled Mighty, Super Geek League (who had their own stage) and Tyler, The Creator.
