Tom Hiddleston, best known for portraying Loki in the Marvel cinematic universe, has been cast to portray music icon Hank Williams in an upcoming biopic titled I Saw The Light.
Inspired by the best-selling book Hank Williams: The Biography, I Saw The Light will follow Williams from his spectacular rise to fame at 25 through his sudden and untimely death at 29. Production is expected to begin in October, with locations already being scouted in and around Louisiana. Marc Abraham will direct.
Deadline reports that producers for I Saw The Light were able to to strike a deal with Sony to acquire rights to several Williams songs, which means Hiddleston will sing standards like “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” and “Hey Good Lookin’.”
I know we do not talk about country a lot on this site, especially classic country, but Hank Williams impacted every genre of music in ways we cannot begin to describe. If you have never lost a weekend learning his story and listening to his music, make it a point to do so in the near future. Alcohol and tissues may also be required.
