UTG PHOTOS: Steel Panther (5/27/14)

Under The Gun sent photographer Nick Karp to Irving Plaza in New York City, NY on May 27, 2014

If you were to bet that there’d be a “show us your tits” chant before the first song of Steel Panther’s set in Irving Plaza, then you would have won that bet. That’s how insane Steel Panther’s performance was. The band knows their gimmick; being the most utterly offensive and hysterical hair metal band to grace any stage. Cashing in on every stereotype may seem like a bad thing, but Steel Panther does it, and does it well. The show isn’t for the humorless or easily offended. They would probably insult you onstage if you even showed any negative emotion toward their set, but truth be told, Steel Panther is hilarious and puts on an amazing live show. Their caricature is spot on and their performance is genius.

Opening for the beloved headliners was California’s own Future Villains. I won’t delve into their set too much, but since the moment they arrived in New York, they were facing a difficult day – starting by apparently hitting a cop car. Their set was filled with technical difficulties, and they didn’t seem to catch themselves. To say it wasn’t rough would be a lie, but everyone has an off-day now and then.
