Katy Perry Launches New Label, Signs First Artist

Katy Perry is no doubt a busy body, but then again, if your latest record sold 286,000 copies in its opening week, you’d probably be pretty swamped too.

Still, in spite of this fact, it seems that the “Birthday” songstress has no intention of slowing her roll anytime soon. Yesterday, Perry took to Twitter to announce the launch of her new record label, Metamorphosis Music, an offshoot of Capitol Records.

As her first order of business, the 29-year-old pop superstar signed the Los Angeles-based singer Ferras, who is currently opening for Perry on The Prismatic World Tour. Check out “Legends Never Die,” a heartrending duet from the duo, by following the jump.

“Her instincts are really on point,” said Ferras. “She is very blunt and doesn’t sugar-coat things, which I appreciate. Also, she gave me the freedom to do what I wanted musically and was a natural partner.”

Though nothing is certain, given Perry’s popularity and already impressive track record, this is likely only the beginning for Metamorphosis Music. For future updates, follow UTG on Twitter.
