FEMME Adds A Modern Twist To The Shangri-Las’ “Sophisticated Boom Boom”

Apart from touring, all’s been quiet on the FEMME front, but tonight the UK-based songstress has announced that, song by song, she’ll be releasing a covers EP throughout the summer. She took to Facebook to explain, “over the next four weeks I’ll be dropping a series of cover versions. Songs that I love, some that were a challenge and some that have no doubt influenced and inspired the sound and the music I make today. It’s an EP to get you through the summer.”

The first track we’ve been treated to is a cover of “Sophisticated Boom Boom” by ’60s pop group The Shangri-Las. It’s a rather straightforward imagining of the original but with an updated, modern production of radio-ready pop beats and FEMME’s accessible and powerful vocals. It’s a jam, we’ll say that.

FEMME admitted to Drowned In Sound, “I only recently discovered that tune. It was a Shangri-Las tune I’d not heard before and I fell in love with it. And it’s called ‘Sophisticated Boom Boom’ which is one of the best song titles ever imo.”
