Stream Turn To Crime’s Fuzzed Out Album ‘Can’t Love’

In one week, Detroit-based fellows Turn To Crime drop their new post-punk album Can’t Love on July 1 via Old Flame Records/Mugg & Bop Records. The 40-minute effort may only have seven tracks, but it brings in as many genres as it can; notably fuzzy psychedelic, garage rock, post-punk, and synthy beats. Think Sonic Youth with the summer lightness of Yo La Tengo when listening to the album stream over at SPIN.

Derek Stanton, the band’s mastermind, describes it as a transitional album for the group. “[It’s] an escape, a break of habits, a deconstruction of form and further experimentation into writing, recording and performance. It was recorded and mixed on several mediums and at as many different places, during a period of change,” he said. “It’s not an encapsulation, nor is it a glimpse, as my only intentions are to keep moving forward.”

Head’s up: make sure to listen the whole way through, because the rawness of their 10-minute closer, “I Can’t Not Love,” is worth every second.
