Under The Gun sent guest photographer, Audrey Lew, to the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, NY to photograph Goo Goo Dolls & Daughty on June 14, 2014.

Last week, the Goo Goo Dolls kicked off their summer tour with the support of Daughtry and the Plain White T’s.

The weather at Jones Beach was nice, but as expected got a bit nippy from the ocean breeze. Overall, I’d expected it to be a good show when it came to sound and performance, seeing as every band on the ballot has been around the block a few times. I was not disappointed.

Plain White T’s were very mellow and a great kick-off to the show. No one in the crowd had any complaints. It was definitely very cool that they played a bunch of their hits like “Hey There Delilah” and “Rhythm of Love.” We always love seeing bands like PWT’s taking their talents to the national amphitheater level.

Daughtry presented a very powerful performance, with a bigger production value visually than the other two bands. The crowd interaction was on point; the band even got the VIPs on stage and involved in one of their songs. Overall, the group is very energetic about how they portray their music in person. Chris Daughtry whipped out a tambourine at one point which added a distinct flair to the vocalist’s performance.

Goo Goo Dolls played well and met expectations. The band played a variety of songs both new and old, appealing to the multiple generations in attendance. Their set included tracks off their newest record Magnetic as well as oldies like “Iris” and “Slide.” When the band finally took stage, the sunset truly added to the charming ambiance of their performance.
