Watch Liars Melt Some Faces in “Pro Anti Anti” Music Video

Los Angeles three piece Liars dropped their new record Mess a few months ago. Their art rock electronic sound gets experimental without pushing people away–a tricky thing to do–which immediately grabbed our attention. Now in their new music video for “Pro Anti Anti,” we get a little bit more weirdness before it’s released as a single on June 30.

The video, directed by Yoonha Park and made with help from Direct Dimensions (who have done body scans for Marvel Comics films), has Angus Andrew and Aaron Hemphill’s faces getting scanned, sculpted, and finally melted. Andrews says there was some worry about how to scan his beard and ultimetly regrets not taking home the mask. According to Nowness, Park was inspired by How It’s Made and the crayon factory episode of Sesame Street.

“It’s the idea of not taking anything too seriously or at face value. Maybe what becomes interesting about technological possibilities is what happens if you mess it up. The same applies to the way we made music with computers for the record: we did exactly the opposite of what the manual told us to do, because that’s when the really interesting stuff happens,” Andrews said. “There are a whole bunch of professional people in the world who are great and valuable because they push these things forward in a way that’s by the book. I feel there is a responsibility on artists and musicians to take what is going on there and set in fire or throw it in the pool.”
