North Korea Threatens War On US Over Upcoming Seth Rogen Film

This October, funnymen James Franco and Seth Rogen will join forces yet again for The Invterview, an edgy comedy that tells the tale of a talk show host and his producer who manage to snag a once in a lifetime sit-down with Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un. As you probably guessed, things don’t quite go according to plan, and the duo becomes ensnared in a government plot to assassinate the North Korean dictator, assumingly for the benefit of the free world.

Franco and Rogen have showcased their uncanny camaraderie on-screen multiple times, and while this latest effort may sound promising to some, not everyone is laughing.

Earlier this morning, North Korean officials promised a “merciless counter-measure” if the United States failed to ban the pair’s latest film, arguing that “Making and releasing a movie on a plot to hurt our top-level leadership is the most blatant act of terrorism and war and will absolutely not be tolerated.”

Though this retort may seem like overkill, it shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone. Kim Jong-un has been making headlines for his questionable, ironclad rule since he assumed office in 2011, following the death of his father, Kim Jong-Il, who was originally meant to be the film’s antagonist. The 31-year-old has maintained strict control over virtually every aspect of North Korean life via propaganda and military force, and in the past has made a point to condemn anyone attempting to belittle his reputation.

While the US government has yet to comment on these newest threats, Seth Rogen doesn’t seem particularly worried. Just a few hours after news broke of North Korea’s distain, the Neighbors star took to Twitter, saying “People don’t usually wanna kill me for one of my movies until after they’ve paid 12 bucks for it. Hiyooooo!!!”

Taking Kim’s nuclear threats last year into account, it will be interesting to see where things go from here. Follow UTG on Twitter for further updates, and share your thoughts with us in the replies below.
