Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O Announces Debut Solo Record, ‘Crush Songs’

Last year the Yeah Yeah Yeahs put out Mosquito, but it seems juggling that and music for Spike Jonze’s Her wasn’t enough to keep fontwoman Karen O busy. She’s just announced she will be dropping her first ever solo album, Crush Songs, September 9 via Cult (Julian Casablancas’ label). That’s the album art to the left.

It may come as a surprise that this is Karen O’s first solo record, but don’t forget that she only contributed one song to Her (the co-written “The Moon Song”) and composed the soundtrack for Where the Wild Things Are under the name Karen O and the Kids. With the simple structure of those pieces as well as the phenomenal stripped-down versions of It’s Blitz! tracks, we’re looking forward to what should be some pretty cute songs.
