There has always been something incredibly entrancing about Prawn’s tones. They are soft, bright, full of reverb and textures, all while consistently creating a crunch of dynamic sound when needed. Following this contrast of wavelike statics in their sound, the band has released their newest track, “Thalassa,” from their upcoming full-length Kingfisher.

Beginning like a Prawn adventure would, “Thalassa” starts with a wonderful horn-assisted intro, seamlessly sewing itself into the alluring verse. But, as previously mentioned, it is not long before Prawn carry you up from the transcendent environment they presented in the beginning of the track, for the eruption of the collective yells spouting the words “I’m glad you found clarity in ambiguity,” bring the listener to a crowded basement, or a tightly packed VFW hall. A basement or hall all grouted by the culminating sweat of an audience that does not need to directly converse with one another to feel the same emotions gifted from the song.

While not anything necessarily new in the band’s repertoire, “Thalassa” is a wonderful reminder of what Prawn is capable of. If you are like me, you cannot wait for Kingfisher‘s August 12 release date. In fact, you can pre-order it here.
