Lo-fi grunge surf rock could use more females fronting the scene, and thankfully Cold Beat is stepping up to the challenge. The San Francisco-based group sees Grass Widow’s Hannah Lew at the microphone, making their debut LP, Over Me, a must-listen.
We got a taste of the album with “Mirror” earlier on, and this week we get to give it a listen in full. There’s the bouncy happiness of “UV” and the cinematic structure of other efforts like “Abandon” and “Rain,” all compacted into a record that flies by. The 13-track full-length is an impressive entrance for the band onto the scene, even if it is Lew’s return.
Head over to NPR to hear it in full.
