SINGLE REVIEW: Sem Thomasson – “Heart Attack” (Feat. Elisabeth Stone)

Artist: Sem Thomasson Feat. Elisabeth Stone
Track: “Heart Attack”
Label: Mutants Records

After having the chance to review electronic cornerstone John Dahlback’s massive collaboration with Benny Benassi earlier this year, it’s now time to switch gears and focus in on Sem Thomasson, one of the rising stars from Dahlback’s label, Mutants Records. Hailing from Hasselt, Belgium, the young producer has already found his own within the electro house genre between original material and remixes for household names ranging from Steve Aoki to Jennifer Lopez, thus making it more of “when” he will become a festival headliner staple rather than “if.”

With nowhere to go but up, Thomasson has crafted the next step in his escalating journey via a brand new track. Entitled “Heart Attack,” the cut provides a healthy slice of uplifting electro house goodness that could have arguably fit comfortably into a Swedish House Mafia set due to its mature composition, sleek production, and live setting sensibilities. Featuring gorgeous vocals from Elisabeth Stone, the intertwining of her voice and the flittering, high-pitched synth work provides a wonderful sense of sonic warmth before the track builds up and drops into a jumping and fist-pumping stimulator of an anthem that the aforementioned trio couldn’t have cooked up any better themselves.

In its essence, “Heart Attack” reaffirms Thomasson’s route for success as the combination of passion and pure enjoyability found in the track is more than enough to please the ears of listeners through their headphones, their car speakers, and of course, the sound systems of electronic festivals across the world. So, remember the name and pay close attention, because you’ll be seeing and hearing much more of Thomasson throughout the rest of 2014 and beyond.
