David Fincher’s ‘Gone Girl’ Gets An Icy New Trailer

A second trailer has been released for the adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s bestselling Gone Girl. Where the first preview for the film was a little more aloof in tone, this is more in keeping with director David Fincher‘s signature style – dark, cold, and mysterious, with more than a hint of the surreal to it. You can view the trailer after the jump.

Starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, Gone Girl focuses on the fallout from the disappearance of Amy Dunne (Pike), who is reported missing by her husband Nick (Affleck) on their fifth wedding anniversary. An intense search effort is mobilised to try and locate the missing woman, but as time ticks on it becomes clear that the Dunnes’ outward portrayal of wedded bliss was not quite all it seemed. Suspicion soon begins to fall on Nick, exacerbated by growing media speculation over the disappearance. The story then gradually makes its way through ever more insidious discoveries and revelations until the final conclusion.

While there has been some controversy over the film, mainly stemming from reported departures from the book ending, Gone Girl remains one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year and on this evidence it’s not hard to see why. Aside from an A-list cast, also including Scoot McNairy and Neil Patrick Harris, the plot looks to be classic Fincher, mixing suspense with strong overtones of the psychological horror infusing earlier films such as Zodiac and Se7en. You can pick up the novel in the meantime if you’re eager to see what happens, but if you want to wait and watch it all play out onscreen Gone Girl hits cinemas on October 3rd.
