MUSIC VIDEO: Young the Giant – “Mind Over Matter”

Earlier this year, Californian indie-pop group Young the Giant dropped a new album titled Mind Over Matter. It’s bright, fun, and more anthemic than their past work, particularly the title track (as almost all title tracks are). Now that we have a music video to go with that song, it proves just how bold of a band they have become, and why you need to be paying attention.

Directed by Tim Nackashi (Death Cab for Cutie, TV on the Radio, OK Go), the music video watches the seasons change in a somewhat trippy setup as we’re reminded that life goes on, but it’s our perspective that keeps us from being swallowed whole. “‘Mind Over Matter’ was a little mantra of trying to get past these certain obstacles that one makes three-dimensional, but which are actually a figment of our own imagination,” frontman Sameer Gadhia said to Rolling Stone. “Sometimes you can think about higher things and the social implications of what you’re doing, but at the end of the day, just being and existing as a group together, getting in a room and jamming for hours: I think that’s really what we are.”
