The pop-duo Generationals didn’t waste any time writing the follow-up to Heza from last year. As one of my favorite records from 2013, I was ecstatic to see that they had already posted a new song from their forthcoming album, Alix, which is called “Gold Silver Diamond.”
Early on in the track, you’ll likely be reminded of Cults, but better. It’s indie-pop at its finest.
One half of the duo, Ted Joyner, talked about the song, explaining, “‘Gold Silver Diamond’ is a song about someone who thinks they’ve been very good at hiding their secrets or hiding who they are, but really they’re not. The song was written on one of the coldest days of the year in New Orleans. I think the streets were even icing over a little, which rarely happens here. I had planned to go out to a show, but then looking at the weather, decided to stay in and ended up making this song. It’s a feel-good party track that is about emptiness, despair, and the meaningless futility of life. Enjoy, world!”
Alix will be out September 16 via Polyvinyl, and is now available for pre-order. Check the song out below and enjoy.
