‘The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears’ Trailer: Prepare To Be Confused

Every so often a film comes along that certain film fanatics cannot stop raving about while others, such as myself, scratch their head and question what exactly it was they just watched. That is most certainly the case with The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears, which finally received its first promotional trailer earlier today.

Born from the minds of filmmakers Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani, The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears is an odd and haunting film about death, or something like it, told more through metaphor than dialogue or deliberate action. It’s the kind of high brow art film that will confuse as many people as it enchants, and the initial trailer does a good job of pulling you in. You can view the clip, which debuted only a few short hours ago, below:

The official synopsis reads:

From directing duo Hélène Cattet & Bruno Forzani (AMER), comes this homage to the masters of classic Italian Giallo horror. Dan returns home to find his wife is missing. With no signs of struggle or break-in and with no help from the police, Dan’s search for answers leads him down a psychosexual rabbit hole. THE STRANGE COLOR OF YOUR BODY’S TEARS is a bloody and taut fantasia of suspense that leaves the viewer entranced in this highly original erotic thriller.

I had the opportunity to screen The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears during the Boston Underground Film Festival this year and try as I might I cannot for the life of me tell you a single thing about what happens during the film’s 102-minute runtime. It’s a confusing, albeit beautiful homage to Giallo horror that is as baffling to the common moviegoer as the two works of Shane Carruth. Fans of classic Italian horror will no doubt find something to love within its frames, but most will be lost from the opening credits to its final shot.

The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears opens on August 29.
