Garth Brooks Reveals His World Tour’s First Stop, Confirms Cancellation Of All Five Dublin Shows

The return of Garth Brooks is going to dominate worldwide headlines for the next week or two. Strap in now.

After all five comeback shows in Dublin were cancelled (which we will get to in a moment), Garth Brooks was forced to find a new place to kick off his recently announced world tour. One lucky fan, a man named Andy Roberts from Atlanta, was given the honor of revealing the host city Monday afternoon. He apparently asked Brooks about his world tour during a Q&A at the country icon’s recent Las Vegas residency and Brooks told him he would let him be the first to know. He also told him he could share the information however he chose, and much to our delight he turned to Twitter to inform the world that Chicago is the lucky city to welcome one of music’s greatest living talents back to the international stage. The date and venue will be revealed by Brooks later today, July 15.

As for the shows in Dublin, Brooks released a letter to fans detailing the events that led to all five performances being cancelled. He wrote:

“The Irish council cannot change their earlier ruling to not allow the licenses for all five shows. To say I’m crushed is an understatement. All I see is my mother’s face and I hear her voice. She always said things happen for a reason and for the right reason. As hard as I try, I cannot see the light on this one.”

Ticketmaster will now refund all 400,000 tickets purchased for the performances, which were scheduled to take place later this month.

Brooks has also confirmed plans for a new album. No specific date has been set, but rumor has it a late November release is likely (aka just in time for the holiday shopping season).

It’s super shitty that he is canceling all 5. They were going to allow him to have 3 (which is what was approved in the first place) and he told them if he can’t do all of them he won’t do any. His letter makes it sound like they were denying him any of the permits which is not the case. (Source: girlfriend’s family lives in Ireland). I think he’s being a selfish asshole.
